Four Yogurt-and-Honey Treatments for Healthier Skin and Hair

From the Genius House Hacks archive.

A bowl of yogurt and honey mixed for a DIY skin treatment

Eating yogurt's probiotics is known to support a healthy gut, and it turns out the same live bacteria can help balance good and bad bacteria on the skin's surface, easing conditions like rosacea and eczema. Paired with honey, it makes for a handful of simple, effective treatments.

Soothe Rashy Skin With a Calming Mask

Mixing 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt with 2 teaspoons of honey, massaging it onto dry skin, and letting it sit for 10 minutes before rinsing uses yogurt's probiotics to calm redness and honey's anti-inflammatory properties to ease irritation.

Thicken Hair With a Volumizing Conditioner

Combining 3 tablespoons of plain yogurt with 3 teaspoons of honey and applying it from roots to ends on damp hair for 15 minutes before rinsing uses honey's antioxidants to strengthen hair at the root while yogurt's lactic acid clears away follicle-clogging buildup on the scalp.

Fade Dark Spots With a Lightening Cream

Rubbing a mix of 1 tablespoon of plain yogurt and 1 teaspoon of honey onto areas with brown spots, like the hands, face, or neck, and letting it sit for 15 minutes before rinsing uses a unique enzyme in honey to help lighten discoloration while yogurt gently exfoliates.

Soften Rough Skin With a Whole-Body Bath

Adding 1/2 cup of plain yogurt and 3 tablespoons of honey to warm bath water and soaking for 20 minutes uses yogurt's creamy fats to hydrate rough patches on elbows, knees, and heels, while honey locks the moisture in.
