Freezers are good for more than ice cubes and frozen pizza. From candles to clothing, the cold can help keep products fresh, extend their life, and even boost their durability. Here are six freezer hacks worth knowing.

Gum-Free Shoes

Got gum stuck to a shoe? Place it in a plastic bag, freeze for two hours, and peel the gum off once it hardens. For a quick fix, hold an ice cube directly on the gum for about 15 minutes instead.

Candle Magic

Freezing wax candles for one to eight hours slows down how quickly they melt, helping them last longer. Freezing also shrinks the wax enough to easily slide a candle out of its glass jar.

Pantyhose Power

Submerge pantyhose in water, freeze them in a plastic bag overnight, and the fibers come out reinforced and more resistant to snags.

Cool Sleep

Freeze pillowcases and sheets for a few hours before bed for 30 to 60 minutes of refreshing coolness at the start of the night, helpful for beating summer heat.

Envelope Time Warp

Forgot to add something to a sealed envelope? Freeze it for an hour or two in a plastic bag, then use a knife to reopen it easily since the cold weakens the adhesive. Reseal afterward with a bit of moisture at room temperature.

Cool Sheets for Cool Dreams

Keeping bed linens in the freezer before bedtime gives you a frosty pillowcase and sheets for 30 to 60 minutes, a simple way to start the night on a refreshing note.
