Peeling a big batch of potatoes doesn't have to be a chore. Boiling them whole with the skin on, then dropping them into an ice bath for 10 to 15 seconds, loosens the skin enough to twist right off by hand.

Remove Stains With a Potato

A raw potato works surprisingly well as a stain remover, rubbed on hands to lift beet or berry stains, or blotted into carpet or fabric for stubborn spots (a little salt added boosts the scrubbing power).

Clean Silverware With Potato Water

Boiling potatoes until soft, then setting them aside and soaking tarnished silverware in the leftover water for at least an hour, removes tarnish without any chemical polish.
