A few hints for the kitchen and the rest of the house, including a reader-submitted trick worth trying.

Dust Baseboards With a Dryer Sheet

Attaching a dryer sheet to a Swiffer in place of a microfiber cloth picks up dust from baseboards just as well while skipping the unpleasant hands-and-knees part, and leaves a pleasant scent behind.

Grate Frozen Butter

A stick of butter that's nearly frozen can be grated and worked into flour for biscuits, scones, or muffins, or sprinkled over toast, veggies, or a baked potato, where the smaller pieces melt much faster than a cold, hard stick would.

Clean Grimy Cookie Sheets Without Scrubbing

Sprinkling a rusty or grimy cookie sheet with baking soda, spraying with hydrogen peroxide, adding another layer of baking soda, and letting it sit while doing something else loosens most of the gunk, which then rubs off with minimal effort.
