Cold weather brings dry air into the home, which makes it much easier for dust to go airborne.

Control Humidity to Cut Down on Dust

Keeping indoor humidity around 40 to 50 percent, which most humidifiers can be set to directly, helps weigh down dust particles so they can't spread as easily. It's worth staying under 60 percent, though, since too much moisture creates ideal conditions for dust mites.

Kick Off Dirt at the Door

Shoes track in about 60 percent of the dust that ends up in a home, and tapping them together three times on the doormat before walking in is shown to shake off about 40 percent of that dirt before it ever makes it inside.

Keep Blinds and Baseboards Dust-Free With a Citrus Solution

Blinds and baseboards attract dust fast because air circulates around them more easily. Wiping them down with a cloth dampened in one part lemon juice to two parts warm water leaves behind a mild acid barrier that blocks static electricity and helps keep dust from settling back down.
