Two 2-Minute Fixes for Sticky Windows and Squeaky Doors

From Anisa's Genius House Hacks newsletter.

Don't let a squeaky door drive you crazy. A quick hinge tune-up is one of the easiest home fixes you can make.

If your house is anything like mine, it's the little things that get ignored the longest. A squeaky door here, a stubborn window there. They're not big enough to call for repairs, but they can be frustrating every single day.

The good news is that both of these handy hints take less time than watching your favorite sitcom, and your house will thank you for it.

Make Sticky Windows Slide Like New

If your windows are hard to open, dirt and friction are often the culprit. Start by vacuuming the tracks and wiping away any built-up grime. Once they're clean and dry, apply a silicone-based lubricant to the tracks. Avoid greasy products that attract dust. Your windows should slide much more easily, and you'll put less strain on the locks and hardware.

Stop Squeaky Door Hinges

That squeaky door doesn't always need a new hinge. Remove the hinge pin, wipe away any old dirt or grime, then apply a small amount of household oil or silicone lubricant before sliding the pin back into place. Open and close the door a few times to work the lubricant in, and chances are the squeak will disappear.
