Gather a mix of leaves in different colors and shapes from your yard or a local park. Make sure they're dry and flat but not too brittle; if they've curled up, press them between heavy books for a day or two to smooth them out.
Choose a real pumpkin or a reusable faux one and wipe it clean so the surface is smooth. A matte finish helps the glue stick better, and painting the pumpkin white or gold first makes the leaf colors pop.
Working in small sections, brush a thin layer of Mod Podge or clear craft glue onto the pumpkin, then gently press a leaf onto the surface and smooth it down. Overlap the leaves for a layered look or space them out to let more of the pumpkin show through, then seal everything with another layer of glue.
Once it's dry, add a sprinkle of glitter, wrap twine or ribbon around the stem, or glue on acorns and pinecones for a woodland-inspired finish.
